Game 1:  Hollister United 1, Tidal Waves 1

Hollister was back in familiar territory with that all too recognizable smell of Morgan Hill for the 10:00am kick-off.  Starting off the Jamboree Hollister had their first game against the Tidal Waves.  Hollister had never played this team before and was unsure what to expect.

The team captains were Alexandra and Hannah.  Hollister won the coin toss.

Alexandria Smallwood started the game as goal keeper and did and excellent job showing no fear while defending the goal.

Hollister started off the game strong and was playing fiercely.  They dominated the game.  For the first half the ball was kept on the Tidal Waves side.  Alexandria Osborne scored with a beautiful assist from Kylie Garcia.

Soon after the first score Kylie Garcia was able to fight down the field and kicked a goal right in the middle of the goal and the ball came out the back of the net.  The cheering on the sidelines was silenced when the Referee missed seeing the goal, and instead called it as a goal kick.

The girls continued to fight hard and play strong.  The tidal waves were able to get the ball on Hollister’s side of the field and scored.

Hollister dominated this game.  This should have been a win, but Referee errors happen, so the girls had to live with a tie.

Game 2: Hollister United 2,  Santa Cruz Mid County Magic 4

For game 2 Kristen Callanta and Alexandria Smallwood were the team captains.

Hollister was hot at the start of game two.  The girls were running right out of the gate.  Alexandria Reckas was able to score right off the bat.  And before the other team knew what hit them Alexandria had scored again.

The defensive players were hot; Chace Miguel and Deanna Rodrigues were making beautiful stops and fighting strong.

Magic was able to score just before the half, but it was from an indefensible kick.

The girls were fired up after the half and continued to play well.

Hollister and Santa Cruz were fighting for the ball when a Santa Cruz player had a hand ball.  Play stopped as the girls waited for the referee’s penalty.  The referee never called the penalty and a Santa Cruz player kicked the ball into Hollister’s net totally undefended.  The game was now all tied up.  Unfortunately this mistake turned the tide of this game.

Santa Cruz with the momentum of the score was able to quickly get in two more goals.  With the lead in Santa Cruz’s favor their coaches began making substitutions every chance they got to eat up the clock and disrupt the flow of Hollister fighting back.

It was a disheartening loss, knowing that mistakes again affected the outcome of the game.

Sunday Game 3

Hollister United 1, Morgan Hill Panthers 2

Early Sunday morning brought the last Jamboree game for Hollister. The wind was whipping the players and even people who were dressed warmly could feel the wind just whip through them.

As the game began the Morgan Hill Panthers team was able to score right away.

This game was like clockwork.  The girls really came together as a team there was forethought in their fighting.  Kylie Garcia was able to score with an assist from Alexandria Reckas.  But with a second score by the Panthers and their coaches employing the strategy of replacing players to eat away time Hollister was unable to answer back.

What I saw the girls accomplish in these last Jamboree games was spectacular.  The passing was out of this world.  The Coaches should be proud and deserve a hardy slap on the back and a job well done.  I know we didn’t win a ton of games, but as coaches and players the team has come a long way from where we stood in the spring.  The girls now have the fundamentals down and will be  ready to rock this next spring and show the league that Hollister is a Class A team.  To the Girls I am so proud of each one you giving your all and never looking back and always looking forward to the next exciting game.  You are a strong team and will go far.

Please check the site regularly for update during the off season as we will keep everyone up to date on the goings on.

Until next season, peace and I will see everyone again in the spring.
