Oct. 16, 2004 Hollister United 1, Mountain View 4 Hollister United played Mountain View on Hollister’s home field. The last time these two teams met it was not a pretty game. It was 10-0 Mountain View and there was a comment in reference to Hollister being Farmers. This time they came to Hollister United’s house and although Hollister lost, the Hollister girls sure showed up to this game and gave Mountain View a double take on what is like down on the farm. Mountain View is currently ranked number 1 in the league and speaking with Coach Adolfo after the game he explained that Hollister was playing the “B” Team for Mountain View and their “A” Team regularly goes to the State Championships. When asked how Hollister was going to start the game, Coach Ted said, “We are going to right at them.” Every game Hollister United plays I see improvements in their development as a team. The way they held the best team in the league to only 4 points was impressive. The Team Captains for this game where Alex Reckas and Hannah Press. Hollister lost the coin toss, but they still got the side of the field they wanted. Both teams stared out fast and the ball was all over the field, but Mountain View was able to find the goal within the first 5 Minutes. Alex Reckas was able to answer Mountain View’s score with a score of her own. After that score Hollister turned the heat up on Mountain View and play was mostly limited to the opposing team’s side of the field. With Great effort Mountain View did score one more time before the half. Play was stopped for a few minutes as Kiley Fontaine took a ball to the face, but she was able to leave the field on her own. She shook off the blow and was able to come back in the second half. Hannah Press had a near goal that bounced off the goalies hands. Alex Reckas almost had the rebound shot just missing the ball by only inches while lying on her back from just haven fallen moments before. During half time the Coaches did a great job of keeping the momentum up going into the second half. Even the United parents were fired up cheering from the sidelines with great veracity that I have not seen before. Mountain View also turned up the pressure and Alexandra Osborn and Chace Miguel did a great job keeping the opposing team at bay. Mountain View was able to find the goal 2 more times, but Kylie Garcia did an outstanding job at not letting them have more than that. Kylie had the ball firing at her for most of the half. One shot was going in above her head and she outstretched her arms and was able to deflect the ball off her finger tips and the ball went into the top of goal post and back out of play. Coach Adolfo is looking forward to playing the Alpine Menlo Bobcats who were pretty even the last time they met Hollister and is eager to see how much his team has grown. Next Saturday Hollister will be at home to face to face the Alpine Menlo Bobcats for a 11:45am game at Veterans Park. The Bobcats are 2-1-0.
