Hollister United 1 – OV
Twisters 1
Our curtain opens on this mid-morning game with Kiley F and
Brianna at center field for the coin-toss. The coin was tossed low
as the Ref snatched it out the air. United would win the toss and
the choice of the side of the field.
The game started before I even knew it as I saw United zipping down the field with the ball, but the Twisters would gain control of play and drive it down field with a heart stopping thud. With a blast into the in goal, the Twisters were able to sneak the ball past United, but with a smart call by the Referee; the Twisters goal was called back on an offsides penalty. After wiping the sweat from my brow, the game settled into a better paced game with United in control making multiple shots on goal. In the closing seconds for the first half Kristen had a break away and took sliding shot and tackle on goal, but the ball was deflected by the approaching Twisters goalie. Hannah with a great heads up play rebounded the ball into the goal. As soon as the play was finished, the three familiar blows of the Referees whistle brought the first half to a close.
Players, coaches, and parents were pumped up for the start of the second half. United was sniffing for another goal and the girls were playing with strength. It was United’s turn to kickoff and United came out putting the pressure on the Twisters goal. United was playing up to their full potential as they kept the pounding on the Twisters door step. Midway through the half the Twisters marched the ball down the field and put one into United’s goal. Unfortunately, this goal would not be called back and would stay on the score board. The game was now tied and one a piece. United turned up the heat and attempted a few more shots on goal, but it was not meant to be and the game would stay 1-1 to the end.
This was United’s regular season ending game. Only the District Cup Jamboree left for post-season play. We would like to thank all of the United players, coaches, and parents for making this such a great season!!! Everyone should be proud of our girls this season, they played strong and hard and developed more as a team.
